Dugout Talk – Pete Rose

In this edition we talk baseball history with the all time hit leader, the “Hit King”, Pete Rose.

Pete Rose was my boyhood idol and I wanted to see him break the record. He broke it on September 11, 1985 and my family and I (trying to guess in July) bought tickets for the September 15th game vs. Dodgers. We were in leftfield for the game and there was a circle painted on the astro turf where the ball fell. Unfortunately, Pete didn’t even play that day because the Dodgers had Fernando Valenzuela pitching and in that season Rose platooned with his old Big Red Machine teammate Tony Perez. Not a shabby player for a consultation prize.
